Although it was fresh and new in 1959, it began to look aged by 1961, and it lost more and more sales to the fresh new Big 3 compacts. With increased competition from the brand-new Buick Special, Oldsmobile F-85, and Pontiac Tempest, the Lark didn't have such a good year in 1961. Fortunately, new, dynamic president Sherwood H. Egbert called upon his friend Brooks Stevens of Milwaukee, Wisconsin to redesign the aging Hawk and Lark lines for 1962 on a shoestring budget. Stevens lengthened the car and added new styling that made the car look longer, lower, and wider. He also gave the Lark a new grille that gave it the appearance of a Mercedes-Benz (Mercedes was distributed by Studebaker in the US at the time). Stevens' ...

Original condition, engine, transmission, brakes operate and drives. Electrics work and truck has been on the road for a few years. The left rear fender has a dent and there is rust through in the sills but floors solid and the body solid. Glass Ok. The interior ok as is. The truck has been registered in New York, it drives and stop but does run a little rough but no knocks etc.

Hand-laid fiberglass body built onto a 1950(?) Studebaker Champion chassis. Original inline flathead six runs like a top. Transmission is Borg-Warner Overdrive, see - http://www.fordifica tion.com/tech/overd ive.htm OD is not connected to cockpit, but a bit of coat-hanger wire could do that. Six volt electrical still intact, lights work. Some gauges not working, nor tach. I have the seats that came with it that fit into the cab, but I'm using now much more comfortable, tall back buckets. The latter need to be properly fitted and installed. Great fun to drive, but it ain't fast by any stretch of the imagination. On May-28-18 at 09:43:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Included is a couple inches thick set of records of the build, with images, etc. Some items date to the early 1950s, but it appears the car body was built in the 1970s. Car must be picked up at my shop near Newport T

Beautiful example owned and maintained by my older friend. Car has one repaint that shows very well, with no known rust thru at all. Originally a California car. This lark starts, runs, stops, and drives very nicely. Completely serviced and ready to enjoy. Tires, shocks, exhaust, fluids, brakes, all done. I have gone over this car top to bottom. I have driven it and it is a dream to drive. Engine, trunk nicely detailed. If you want a Lark, you can not do much better than this.
