This steel-bodied Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta (s/n 3963) was sold to its first owner in 1963 and was the fifth from the last of the 150 produced. It was imported into the United States for its first owner, Earl Middleton. In the 1970s, this Ferrari was owned by Joe Bortz, who enjoyed the car's performance a little too much and got the car impounded for 24 hours after a speeding violation! After a few more owners it was sold to Richard Merritt, co-author of the America Ferrari Bible, Ferrari, the Sports and GT Cars. After a few more years in the United States, the car returned to Europe and lived in Switzerland untill 2005 when its current owner acquired it for his sports car collection in California.

The 250 SWB is often described as one of the best dual-purpose Ferraris. Around 160 examples were made, and they had success both on and off the track. Standard road versions of the SWB, like this one, had a steel body with 1 90 x 54 mm frame and a detuned Colombo V12, while the competition versions featured an alloy body and a smaller 80 x 45 mm frame.

In 1961 Ferrari launched the ultimate 250 GT SWB, often referred to as a SEFAC Hot Rod but also known more formally as the Comp/61. There were also a few of the 250 SWB Competiziones that received a mechanical makeover for the 1961 season. At the time there was little competition that could rival the SWB in the GT class, and it often beat the Jaguar E-Type and Aston Martin DB4 in sports car race series. This car (s/n 2689GT) is one of the most famous of the 20 alloy-bodied SWBs built in the Ferrari factory to race. It was driven to third overall and first in class at the 1961 24 Hours of Le Mans by Pierre Noblet and Jean Guichet. They continued to race the car and racked up probably the most desirable race records of all the SWBs.

This car (s/n 1953 GT) is the first 250 GT SWB Berlinetta built. It was the car that debuted at the Paris Auto Show in 1959. It is one of only two 250 GT SWB Berlinettas built without the later traditional air vents in the front fenders, the second car (s/n 1613 GT) was the other. After being sold to its first owner by Luigi Chinetti, the New York Ferrari importer, it placed sixth overall in 1960 in the 12 Hour race at Sebring, Florida. After several owners and a few more races, this car has now been returned to its 1959 Paris Auto Show condition by Ferrari specialist Bob Smith.

This car (s/n 2807) is one of the 20 factory-built Comp/61 competition cars, and it is the car featured on the poster for the 2010 Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance presented by Rolex. The car has recently been restored to a precise point in time for its current owner - the point in time when it raced in the 1962 Tour de France. The Comp/61s, often referred to as SEFAC Hot Rods, were built using a competition-prepared Tipo 168 B/61 engine that had 250 TR heads with revised cam timing, large intake ports and bigger intake manifolds, and six twin choke Weber 46 DCF/3 carburetors replacing the 36s and 40s normarlly. Performance was fantastic; depending on gear and axle ratios, these cars could race from zero to sixty mph in around five seconds and could achieve 160 mph at circuits like Le Mans. The lightweight bost used ultrathin aluminum panels fabricated by Scaglietti to Pininfarina's initial design.

This is a good example of an early competition Ferrari 250 GT SWB car. While standard road versions of the SWB had a steel body with a 90 X 54 mm frame and a detuned Colombo V12, the competizione versions featured an alloy body and a smaller 80 X 45 mm frame. Offering a substantial weight savings, the competition cars attained class victories at the biggest events, including Le Mans and the Tour de France. This car (S/N 1905GT) was raced during the early 1960s in Italy. It was sold to an owner in the United States in 1966.

The ultimate 250 GT SWB, often referred to as a SEFAC Hot Rod but also known more formally as the Comp/61, was built on a lighter frame using smaller tubing and a lightweight alloy body and it had plexiglass windows. The engine has the TR 250 cylinder heads with revised cams and larger intake ports. It produces around 290 bhp and can achieve over 160 mph. This Comp/61(s/n 2767) was raced by several drivers, including Ferrari drievr Carlo Abate, and it won its class at the 1,000-kilometer race at Montlhery. It also appeared at Monza, Pescara and the Tour de France during 1961.

This Ferrari 250 GT SWB is one of the last steel-bodied street cars produced, and the 133rd of the total run of 250 GT SWBs. Built in 1962 it has the 3-liter overhead-cam V12 engine with three Weber carburetors producing 240 bhp. It was first owned by Steve Earle, founder of the Monterey Historic Automobile Races. After 12 years the car was sold to sports car racer Harley Cluxton and later to another race drive, James Daugharty. In the late 1980s the SWB was race prepared and campaigned in many historic sports car races. It had now been restored to its original road-going configuration.
